Redmond’s Micro-Mecca

Micro-Breweries have become one of the most iconic staples the Pacific Northwest has to offer. They have become so popular in fact that they are now popping up almost everywhere. I think it's important that we recognize and appreciate good craft beer, but I also think we should know our surroundings and understand our proximity to some of the best micro-breweries in the state of Washington, if not the United States.

My passion for good beer started the day I had my first sip of Mac & Jack's African Amber (I was at least 21). Its distinct bold taste sent a little shiver down my spine… I knew I wasn't in the Colorado Rockies anymore. Ever since, I have made it a mission to taste anything new, anything I've never heard of before on my quest to find the perfect beer. I've tasted many a beer in my day and yet I'd still consider myself a novice connoisseur. Just when you think you've tried it all, you stumble upon that new brewery that you'd never heard of and that shiver returns to your spine.

Through my many pints and added lb's I have discovered that some of the best beer in the United States is a 20 minute drive from us here at the Estates at Cougar Mountain. Redmond has proven to be the Mecca of my beer-ventures. I keep coming back to two micro-breweries: Mac & Jack's Brewery (right next to Marymoor Park) and Black Raven Brewing Co. (off Willows Road.). As I have been planning my wedding with my fiancée for next June, my one job is to take care of the beer and wine arrangements. Each of these breweries will have their best offerings (in my personal opinion) on tap at my wedding.

Mac & Jack's African Amber is where it all started for me. It is a Northwest Classic that helped establish the Pacific Northwest as a micro brewery powerhouse and led the way for many unfiltered, dry hopped Ambers to come. Feel free to check out Mac and Jack's website or go grab a growler or a keg from their brewery! (Their Two Ton IPA isn't bad either…)

The second signature beer I will be selecting for the big day will be Black Raven Brewing Companies Trickster IPA. This is my personal favorite as far as beers go right now. At 6.9% Alcohol by Volume (or ABV,) this beer is just like your older brother. You love it to death, but sometimes it kicks your butt. It is one of the hoppiest beers I've had and I love hops! Feel free to pop in to the Black Raven Tap Room to try out everything they have on tap. They are open seven days a week and offer up pints, growlers and kegs at the taproom. Check out their website.

Annette Lake trail is rated the 7th best trail out of 292 trails in the Snoqualmie National Forest.
